They say that those who are crazy enough to think they can change the world usually do.
That's certainly the case for one pivotal figure in the history of Pearls: Kokichi Mikimoto.
Legend has it, that Mikimoto was laser focussed on one very specific, very determined goal: 'to adorn the necks of all women with pearls'.
Pearls were impossibly rare at the time. So rare that a double strand of pearls was traded for a mansion on New York's Fifth Avenue before Mikimoto left his mark.
So his goal was certainly ambitious. I'm sure people thought he was crazy.
It was seemingly impossible to change the way pearls came about, to make this goal happen.
Though he did it.
His revolutionary methods forever changed the pearl industry, and make a distinct mark in the history of pearls.
Today, they are abundant and affordable.
To us, that makes them a tangible reminder that anything is possible, no matter how impossible it seems.
